in an interview with bomb magazine from april 1st, 1995 ( woohoo *almost* 25 year mark ) juliana hatfield is asked what she's listening to then:
and in the video above he doesn't shy away from tackling juliana's drummer taking it all down with them, before jumping into the crowd of course loll gotta love seeing favs collide..sometimes more literally than othersXD

miles davis: birth of the cool (2019)
great documentary about a great musician.
i was able to catch this in january playing at my local movie theater (that so graciously hooks my job up with movie tickets s/o austin film society) and was very excited to see that it was streaming on netflix recently so i took advantage of that and rewatched a couple weeks ago !!
as far as visual content goes, i love the archive photos and footage they have in this, they give the viewer a more up close and personal view of miles. i thought they also had a great ensemble of interviewees: past bandmates & business partners, past lovers, and the friends that knew him the best and saw his ups and downs the closest.
a few recollections that'll make you laugh (keep ur eyes peeled for his first wife francis taylor), and some that'll make you a little bummed out:// i did like that they were real about him though and didn't try to portray him as being perfect or dismiss his issues (ie drug and physical abuse) from the past.
even as someone who wasn't all that familiar with his back story prior to seeing this film, it brought me to tears and i found myself with a new appreciation for the artist that was miles davis..rip
he falls down drunk, i hold him up
he drinks and i refill his cup
then i take him home and put him to bed
he wakes me in the dead of night
lets me be his second sight
to guide him when he's sleep-walking
listen when he's sweet-talking
i see the end of the road in his eyes
he's got a long way to go
i hold him like a loaded gun
i know he might go off with anyone
but i know he's only tryin' to have some fun
he sees a couple of things in me
like how i'm not very hard to please
it's really pretty easy
i see my long lost home in his eyes
he sees a nice hotel in mine
i'll stick it out forever babe
if we keep coming back together maybe
you'll start to see it like me
i'll stick it out forever babe
if we keep coming back together maybe
you'll start to see it like me
i'll stick it out forever baby
ok so i don't want to be one to speculate...so i'm gonna blame it on songmeanings.com user carrie713 ( shoutout htx ? ) for saying "this one is obviously about evan dando." but i can't not admit i was thinking it too... juliana and evan say they met when they were both about 19, and pretty immediately became friends. i recently read an interview i really liked from 1993 with uk mag melody maker where they talk with juliana and evan about the inner workings of their friendship/relationship and even have the two interview each other a bit. i try not to stan the two of them too hard, but sometimes i just can't help myself loll the interview has too many good bits to quote, so if u consider yourself a julievana stan please do read the entire article. ( scans from the mag: page 1, page 2 )
edit: i decided to stop working on this entry, cuz after reading more and more interviews with juliana i started to feel bad realizing how much it'd annoy her getting some questions about evan. so out of respect and feeling guilty, i will stop this post here loll
below is a link to a website that has compiled scans of tons of interviews with juliana ranging from 91-98,
really cool to read through them all:

one of my coworkers put this record on the other day and like third track in i had to turn around like whooo is thisss !!
i loved it, and it was something that got me really excited, which i feel hasn't happened in some time with discovering a "new to me" artist.
it's 90s alt country, with a nice little power ballad "grudge fuck" placed nicely in the middle of the record.
a common theme u notice in a lot of the lyrics revolve around using, whether it be drugs or alcohol or even another person (helllooo scorned ex-lovers this one is for u)
i read one article with a nice take on it:
idkk but ya "grudge fuck" is maybe my fav track on it.
the only track on the album that was actually recorded outside of the studio session, just done on a four track at home.
i can't say i haven't gotten too high late at night and felt like hitting up an ex was the best idea.. lol
jk jk i digress tmii lmao :XX
i've been listening to the s/t (1995) elliott smith album a lot recently.
starting to wonder if i like it better than either/or.. :x
idk thoughh i think the lyrics of either/or are more romantic which is more relatable for me so i think that's still my fav:p
this one is so beautiful tho, love the storytelling. tbh a lot of the lyrics, vocal melodies, and guitar playing kind of reminds me if he was doing like a 90s alt townes van zandt loll i like to think of it that way..
i was making a country mixtape for a friend once and i kinda wanted to put a track off this album on there, i was debating between "clementine" or "alphabet town" ((neil young-y track ??)) or "the biggest lie"..
idk i never got around to making the tape anyways. maybe i still will once i can finally decide loll
"the moon is a lightbulb breaking
it'll go around with anyone
but it wont come down for anyone..."
i love this short film/doc
"lucky three: an elliott smith portrait"
by jem cohen
filmed oct 1996 in portland, oregon
he plays "between the bars"
a cover of big star's "thirteen"
and ends with "angeles"
i love the footage of him
just walking around town
and the flowers
and the scenery
elliott does a long list of covers throughout the years,
but i've gotta say
his "thirteen" cover is my fav:)
