the boys and i went and saw the new dino jr doc freakscene: the story of dinosaur jr about a month ago now, but i've still been thinkin about it lately. i feel like dino is one of the most influential bands on me and my band so it was cool to get to see it with em :) i enjoyed hearing the guys talk, tho obviously j didn't have that much to say himself lol it opens with him being like "i don't really remember how i used to feel or think really..." so u know ur not gonna get too much from him throughout lolll but he said enough, and murph and lou had plenty to say themselves. i loved all the old footage and the infamous fight :0 tbh i loved seeing that lmao
it wasn't until the doc actually that i found out matt dillon directed the get me music vid and was buddies with j. here's a couple pics from bts of the music vid shoot with him (from the dinosaur jr book which i need a copy of ?? lol)
anyways, i've been trying to practice my fingerpicking lately, so naturally i've been trying to practice with some dino songs. kinda got down the verse parts of "goin home" but i think today i'm gonna try to learn this track. even tho i do love the studio recording with the drums and shit, there's something about the live acoustic version he plays (above) that really gets to me.. maybe it's how kinda meek his voice sounds paired with the lyrics ? idk but this song really kinda bums me out actually loll but i love it

i just recently got into this second album, to prep for seeing her a couple nights ago loll this track is probably my fav off it, tho i feel like i personally relate more to independent thief... interesting that my two favs are kinda on opposite sides of the spectrum loll maybe some sort of reality vs ideation thing going on in my head ?? independence vs giving everything up for someone ?
ok so the show...she sounded soooo great, just her and another guy on guitar ( i'm sorry but i'm forgetting his name rn, but she said they met on a cruise loll she loves cruises she said "boats are back" lmao ) of course nick and i HAD to bring her a "who the fuck is on being an angel" shirt cuz we're punishers but she was really sweet and was like "nobody ever brings me stuff :')" and she even was like "are you guys playing tomorrow? we have the day off" i WISH i had just said yes and booked a damn show but my dumbass was like "no" lmao.. she was so funny and cool i got kinda nervous, but i told her to hit us up next time she was in texas and she was like "oh i will i won't forget ur guys' name..the shirt is smart" we were like ayy lolll here's a pic of us with her B-]

in may i saw helllaaa good shows !! now might be a good time to remind u guys of the ongoing rym list i have of "bands i've seen live" that is mostly accurate give or take some stuff here and there cuz i have a bad memory lol.. i started the month seeing snail mail which i was very stoked for not only cuz i love the new album but also cuz i really like them as ppl and was stoked to get to say hey and hang a bit !! then started the epic bday weekend of 2022... for the oblivion access fest i got to see: on the 14th ( the day b4 my bday !! ) the microphones ( !!!!! ) at the central presbytarian church which is just such a killer venue for a show like that, then that night we rung in my bday at midnight with HTRK at the goth club elysium loll, then the next day ( my bday proper ) we went back to the church for grouper ( !!!! ) they all sounded so amazzzzinggg i had such a good weekend :')
then the following weekend i saw bright eyes ( for the first time in like a decade ) and freakin todd rundgren and daryl hall !!!!! it was so sick todd in particular KILLED it WOW he sounded so good and shredded hard on guitar still and played almost all the ones i wanted to hear :') to round out the month of may on being an angel played our good homie dustin's bday swass show at the new spot chess club with the legendary jad fair !!!! he was stoked to be playing shows again and was really cool and nice :) we played another acoustic set which is fun to change it up every once in a while, nice to have nick on pedal steel and to get to play my acoustic. we did a cover of jane says and played a new song for the first time !! so feel free to check it out if ur bored, the video is down below :)
in march during sxsw i befriended evan dando of the lemonheads and then when i was in LA in april with the narrow head homies, i met up with evan at the infamous lemonheads/jawbreaker show and ended up singing juliana's parts in "bit part" on stage with evan !!! i never saw that one coming... lmao he's such a sweetheart he ended up giving me his acoustic guitar and now we're talking about trying to tour together with the lemonheads AND juliana hatfield maybe even !!?! unreal...

i also just wanted to share that i'm playin an elliott smith tribute show this coming tuesday june 16th, 2022 at the volstead lounge next door to hotel vegas !! his stuff is hard so i'm gonna do my best but don't get ur hopes up loll but i couldn't say no cmon i had to...say yes ;)
