ok so i'm sure if you're somewhat into elliott, you're aware of the trajectory of his career and how his first major label release (xo, on dreamworks, except for the vinyl release on producer tom rothrock's label bong load records) kinda threw him into stardom after being nominated for an oscar and performing "miss misery" from the good will hunting soundtrack at the awards show in march of 98.
and lemme just talk about good will hunting for a sec too cuz i love that movie and the soundtrack, plenty of elliott ("angeles", "no name #3", "say yes", "miss misery", and an orchestral "between the bars") and a sick ass luscious jackson song "why do i lie" (good live version too hehe)
but anyways, amongst the success and blowup, elliott was on an episode of snl october 17th 1998, with host lucy lawless, and other guests judge judy..and chucky...EPIC lineup i gotta say. he performed "waltz #2 (xo)" with jon brion on piano, sam coomes of quasi on bass, xo and figure 8 producer rob schnapf on second guitar, and john moen from the decemberists on drums, a real family affair. a couple people in this reddit thread say apparently at a show once before playing "between the bars" elliott said he wrote that one while watching xena and that he had a bit of a crush on her, but idk there's no vid i know of to confirm this, so believe what u will...
