crept on you like slowly
but faster than you could see
it's not like i noticed i wouldn't be
the first one you let in
same person that you know would forget to be honest
i might be the furthest from your mind
whatever you told me, somehow you sold me on
i want to believe it 'til i see you later on
apparition counterfeit
will this racket go on another year?
overconfident maybe you're still here
misplaced my fear
whatever you told me, somehow you sold me on
i wanna believe it 'til i see you later on
you cross the other way
and hope i didn't see you
start calling out your name
because i want to meet you again don't know why
you say you're doing fine
but that's not what it looks like
something doesn't feel right
your undercovers on
crept on you like slowly
but faster than you could see
it's not like i noticed...
whatever you told me, somehow you sold me on
wanted to believe it 'til i see you later on
you cross the other way
and hope i didn't see you
i start calling out your name
because i wanna meet you again don't ask why
you say you're doing fine
but that's not what it looks like
something doesn't feel right
your undercovers on
you're acting kind of warm
but soon you've got to leave
there's something that you need
i'm not invited to go
those people that you know
well, they don't care about you
can live easily without you
your undercovers on
your undercovers on
you're acting kind of warm
but soon you gotta leave
there's something you need
i'm not invited to go
those people that you know
they don't care about you
can live easily without you
and you cross the other way
and hope i didn't see you
i'm calling out your name
because i want to meet you again
don't know why
your undercovers on
undercovers on
your undercovers on...

i'll be here in the morning
there's no stronger wind than the one that blows
down a lonesome railroad line
no prettier sight than looking back
on a town you left behind
there's nothin' that's as real
as a love that's in my mind
close your eyes
i'll be here in the morning
close your eyes
i'll be here for a while
there's lots of things along the road
i'd surely like to see
i'd like to lean into the wind
and tell myself i'm free
but your softest whisper's louder
than the highway's call to me
close your eyes
i'll be here in the morning
close your eyes
i'll be here for a while
all the mountains and the rivers
and the valleys can't compare
to your blue lit dancin' eyes
and yellow shining hair
i could never hit the open road
and leave you layin' there
close your eyes
i'll be here in the morning
close your eyes
i'll be here for a while
lay your head back easy, love
close your cryin' eyes
i'll be layin' here beside you
when the sun comes on the rise
i'll stay as long as the cuckoo wails
and the lonesome bluejay cries.
close your eyes
i'll be here in the morning
close your eyes
i'll be here for a while
close your eyes
i'll be here in the morning
close your eyes
i'll be here for a while
last year the only book that i finished was my years with townes van zandt: music, genius, and rage by townes' tour manager harold f. eggers. i really enjoyed the book and getting to hear what it was like to work so closely and even more, to be friends with townes. i like that harold didn't try to hide the dark side of townes, cuz i don't think he'd be telling the story right without it. as much as we all love townes' music, i think we tend to romanticize him as a person (as we tend to do with a lot of artists) and forget that he wasn't perfect. for as many stories harold tells related to the bottle, u also get a sweet story about mr. guitar and how important songwriting was to townes and keeping him going. harold said townes would write and rewrite lyrics until they were exactly what he was trying to say, i always think about that now when trying to write stuff. i even felt inspired to name my acoustic when i got him last year after reading about the bond townes had with mr. guitar (his name is woodman btw loll). harold lives in austin nowadays again and often comes by the record shop i work at. one of my coworkers helps him sell old posters and show fliers he's collected throughout the years. recently i managed to snag a flier from a 93 gig at cactus cafe in austin, got it framed and hung by my desk :) i haven't gotten a chance to talk to harold about the book yet, but i would like to punish him a bit about it sometime loll wish me luck
